'Shifting Light'

39.5.jpg

‘Shifting Light’ is a collection that explores the interplay between light, movement, and perception. Using gemstones, silver-leaf and layers of mirror, plain and iridescent acrylic; each piece changes under different lighting, shifting the colours and reflections presented in the piece.

Using iridescent and mirror acrylic, it changes the appearance depending on the surrounding light, creating a spectrum of colours that offer a unique experience to each viewer. Gemstones are layered between the acrylic sheets and secured with rivets. These layers of gemstones aim to enhance the depth throughout the pieces, to capture light, adding to the reflective aspect. Silver-leaf is trapped between the acrylic to bridge the contrast between metalwork and acrylic, while also mimicking fragmented reflections of a mirror and reinforcing the collection’s theme.

Inspired by the circular forms of camera lenses and kaleidoscopes, the designs evoke the experience of viewing light through different lenses. The fragmented silver-leaf and shimmering gemstones create a display of reflections shifting, while also mimicking the motions and patterns seen when looking through a kaleidoscope. Shades of pink, reflected in the iridescent acrylic, are echoed through pink gemstones and cord, adding vibrancy and contrast against the reflective silver-leaf. This collection casts colourful shadows and shifting reflective patterns, emphasising the relationship between light and perception.

Each piece in the 'Shifting Light' collection is designed to catch the eye while responding to the surrounding environment’s light and changing with the movement of the wearer. It is a celebration of light in motion - constantly changing, reflecting, and transforming.
